The Freedom To Show Up Just The Way You Are…

Over the years, we have beat people over the head with the pressure to change, to repent, to clean up their act and come to God.  A lot of them have been left traumatized and wounded by this pressure to change and clean up before coming because the more they try and fail, the more unworthy they feel.  But is that really the gospel?

Check this out: Romans 1:17 (ERV)

“The Good News shows how God makes people right with himself. God’s way of making people right begins and ends with faith. As the Scriptures say, “The one who is right with God by faith will live forever.”

This completely blows that the repentance theology apart!  God’s way of making people right begins and ends with faith!  That’s revolutionary!

Faith is all God needs to change a man. We are made right with God by faith in him and not our good works to change ourselves.  Faith is what attracts God.

Hebrews 11:6 (ERV)

“Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.”

Matthew 18:3 (ERV)

“Then he said, “The truth is, you must change your thinking and become like little children. If you don’t do this, you will never enter God’s kingdom.”

Religion says repent first and then come to God but God says believe first! come and then i’ll change you.  Faith leads to relationship, love and that relationship leads to repentance.

There is no true repentance without relationship; that with will be hypocrisy.  A relationship with God that lasts can only be sustained by Faith.  Faith like a little child has. (Matthew 18: 2-4 ERV)

Religion hammers on repentance because it is based on works that can be seen, measured, tracked and ultimately bragged about.  That’s why we insist that people change their dressing, looks, language, and other externals as “proof” that they have changed and are now “holy”.

Human effort is controllable and appeals to our pride.  We feel that we are truly taking steps to change ourselves, we are doing something meaningful; the downside is, that mindset, doesn’t give God any glory. It means, WE not God are responsible for our own salvation.

Faith takes away our control and that can be scary. A relationship based on pure faith scares us so much, we try to control it with our efforts.

Faith requires that we hand over our very life and nature to God, believe in him to change us and trust his process as we become more and more like him in relationship.

It is the love relationship that causes our mind, character, behavior and attitude to conform to the new nature we have received by faith.

The gospel is very simple. Believe! Then Come! Just the way you are!
