Dear Christian Woman, Your Body Is NOT Yours….

Feminists won’t like this. But as christian women, (and men), the word of God is what we live by and not the philosophies and ideologies of man.

This evening, a friend of mine, posted a picture she had taken to celebrate womanhood and gender empowerment and she received a lot of criticism because of the body paint. (and the nudity of course). As a work of art, i must say, it looked gorgeous and i absolutely loved the boldness and the paint.

Naturally, i rushed to her defence when i saw the comments. Especially the ones who went all out to body-shame and slut-shame her. I do not and will not condonne meaness and hateful remarks in any way because i believe such behaviour does not do any good.

However, as i was about to post that a woman’s body belongs to her, not to her child, or to anyone else, the spirit of God stopped me in my tracks and i remembered this:

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

God is very clear on this one. You do NOT belong to yourself. You simply can’t do what you please with your body. The spirit of God lives in that body. God paid a high price for you. not just your soul, but your entire self. (your physical body included) and that’s why the body must be treasured. If you’re going to do anything with God’s possesion, you must be sure he approves!

Your body is sacred. See how serious God is about it:

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (ESV)

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

God takes his temple (your body) so seriously that if anyone messes with it, that individual is in trouble.

Dear Christian woman, God loves you. he treasures you so much that he protects you this way. Your body belonging to him does not rob you of any “power” or “choice”.  Rather, it sets you free to worship him in purity and full dedication. You are not oppressed, you are blessed and empowered by the Holy Spirit in you!

Say something!
