Sermons Can’t Replace The Bible

As a sermon buff myself, I can tell you that I have listened and I’m still listening to great sermons from great preachers, but none replaces the word of God that is revealed in the place of personal study.

Sermons can never replace the bible. No matter how many sermons you listen to, studying the word on your own is what gives you the spiritual ammunition you need and it’s what ensures your growth spiritually.

It’s the word of god that sticks. A good sermon will create the desire to study more and the desire to grow. Studying on your own completes the process.

Isaiah 61:11 (AMP)

For as [surely as] the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring forth, so [surely] the Lord God will cause rightness and justice and praise to spring forth before all the nations [through the self-fulfilling power of His word].

The word of God fulfils its purpose in your life. It’s the word you receive that brings rightness to your life. True worship comes from the spirit that has been nurtured in the word.

The sermon stirs up a hunger that only the Holy Spirit can fill when you devote time with him to study for yourself.

So pick up your bible today. Open your heart and let God speak to you himself.

  1. Indeed. Reminds me of a personal experience where i was binging on sermons and devotionals. I heard Him clearly when He said “The best of sermons by the best of preachers cannot compare to a direct personal revelation”.

Ever since that day, sermons and devotionals take 2nd and 3rd place. Personal devotion is number one.
